Following a hugely successful exhibition last year, Emigrate, the UK’s largest multi destination, long haul emigration show returns for a second visit to Belfast at the King’s Hall on 8 and 9 March 2008.
Currently, emigration from the UK is running at more than 300,000 people annually and trend research suggests this figure is likely to accelerate over the next ten years. Overseas Governments are increasingly looking for suitable migrants and anyone with a recognised skill, trade or professional qualification may be exactly the type of person they are seeking.
In a recent poll of readers of Outbound’s Emigrate newspapers, the most common reasons for leaving the UK are: loutish behaviour and crime, high cost of living and property prices, travel chaos, the weather and the UK government. Long haul destinations continue to be highly popular with Brits, with Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA topping the list.
Emigrate Belfast 2008 present’s exhibitors and organisations from around the world and is fully endorsed by several national governments. Exhibitors include government immigration officials, migration and visa experts, property consultants, removals firms, recruiters, currency and pension transfer specialists. In addition, a series of popular seminars runs daily throughout the show presented by panels of emigration.
Mike Schwarz, Exhibition Organiser, said, “We were quite amazed at the attendance to our first Belfast show and the level of interest in emigration. We are looking forward to another lively and well attended show this year. For many people, this event is their first serious step towards emigrating and we are delighted to be able to assist them in their quest for a new life overseas.”
Visitors to the show receive a complimentary show guide and an overseas jobs paper. Other attractions include the International Job Boards, where hundreds of current vacancies from around the world are displayed.

From 22-24 November, the Belfast Beer and Cider Festival will bring together in one venue in Belfast, good beer, real cider and live music, organised and run by the local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
“The Balmoral Hall in the King’s Hall complex will become, for three days, the biggest pub in Ireland”, says Trevor Burton, the Festival Manager.
“Over the 3 days, visitors will find 50 hand-pumps offering over 120 beers, plus 16 real ciders and a perry, with at least 50 beers and 7 ciders at the start of each day. “
But the Festival is more than just the beer and cider. Real live music from local bands will provide entertainment throughout the three days and on-site catering, traditional pub games and sales of souvenirs and other products add up to a well-rounded event.
“Shame this only happens once a year, there really should be more choice for drinkers in Northern Ireland”, says Adrian Saunders, Bar Manager for the event.
“There really is no excuse now, with easy access to over 5,000 cask ales from Great Britain, and production in Northern Ireland continuing to expand, the challenge now is for publicans to offer consumers a bigger choice of cask ales. Belfast is a popular tourist destination and visitors as well as locals often look for real ale and are disappointed at the very poor availability.”
In selecting beers the Festival organisers have aimed for a balance to suit drinkers of all ages and palates, and have chosen a wide range of traditional and modern styles. We also know that our younger, and female, drinkers tend to prefer ‘lighter’ beers, and they will be well catered for, not forgetting the ciders and perry.
Along with several favourites from earlier Beer Festivals, there will be plenty of beers to sample from new and unfamiliar breweries.
But, of course, pride of place will go to a selection of excellent beers from our own local real ale breweries, Hilden and Whitewater.
As the Festival gets under way a panel of CAMRA’s local members and guests will also be selecting a ‘Champion Beer of Belfast 2007’, not an easy task when trying to compare different beer styles such as bitters, best bitters, milds, porters, stouts and lagers.
